On Sunday June 28, 2009 at 0735 hours Station 99, Rescue 51, EMS station 116 and IRP 120 were dispatched to Rt 356 near the Freeport Bridge for a reported vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon arrival, a firefighter from Station 99 reported one vehicle into the woods and down 15′ drop with the vehicle on the driver’s side and one patient trapped and partially ejected.
Rescue 51X, Squad 51, and Eng 51 responded with 10 total personnel. Upon arrival crews were given information from the EMS crew who had the vehicle partially stabilized. The vehicle was completely stabilized, and inside rescuer was established, and crews went to work on removing the roof of the vehicle as well as the steering wheel so that access could be gained to the patient.
Once access was gained the patient was boarded and placed into a stokes where she was removed from the scene and taken to Medic 116-1. Medic 116-1 transported the patient to a nearby landing zone where she was transported to a trauma center in the city.
