A Greene County man was seriously injured Thursday morning when his vehicle ran off Prosperity Pike (Route 18) in Morris Township and hit a tree and a home.

State police said Forest Michael Wood, 19, of Holbrook, was driving north about 7 a.m. in the 5700 block when his truck went off the road, hit a guardrail and traveled 220 feet through the yard before striking a large tree, then spinning and coming to rest with the driver’s side wedged against the home at 5715 Prosperity Pike.

Wood had to be extricated from the vehicle by Morris Township firefighters and was unresponsive, said fire Chief Dave Dietrich. He was wearing a seat belt. Wood was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

There was minor damage to the home. Dietrich did not provide the name of the homeowner, but said the family was inside and a 9-year-old was on the other side of the wall that the truck hit. The child was not injured.

“It’s a good thing that the truck hit the tree prior to hitting the house or it might have gone clear through the house,” Dietrich said.

Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours, as the impact was so great it ripped the fuel tank from the truck and gas sprayed around the area. State police are investigating.
