Shortly before 1am on Tuesday, December 30th, crews were alerted to Friendship Avenue in the city of Duquesne for a working residential structure fire.
Police arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire. There was also reports of possible entrapment.
Initial crews arrived to meet very heavy fire conditions and the flooring on the first story was compromised quickly. The intense fire was battled for about 3 hours prior to being under control.
Multiple firefighters suffered injuries at the scene, including a back injury and a leg injury. Everyone on scene had to deal with icy conditions due to the temperature.
Unfortunately, a woman lost her life in the fire. A dog was rescued, but another dog did not make it out.
