February marked the 14th year that we have provided western Pennsylvania firefighting news. It was originally created in February of 2003. It has undergone a lot of changes, and even a new name (Hoopie World to WPAFN). Please see the site history at this page link.
The creation and popularity of Facebook was the biggest contributing factor to the changes necessary not only to our site, but to many sites across the internet. The biggest impact from Facebook by far was the ever so popular Hoopie World discussion forums were retired due to a lack of use after a while.
Eventually, Facebook was incorporated as a tool to be used with the site, and our Facebook page currently has 5.8k followers. Click here to follow our page if you aren’t already a follower! We also learned how to use Twitter and have a Twitter account that we use as well.
For a little birthday gift from us to you, click on this link to see what the original page looked like back in 2003! Its missing some pictures, however for the folks that were with us back then, it will definitely bring back some memories.
Thanks again for the continues support, and I look forward to the next 14 years!

We have decided to rename and rebrand Hoopie World to WPAFN (wpafirenews.com). This decision was made to help grow our network of followers and visitors. We found too many people questioned and were confused by the Hoopie World name.
This decision was made after many months of consideration. It wasn’t an easy one, but one that I felt was necessary to make.
You will see the transformation on the site over the next few days. Don’t worry, your links to Hoopieworld.com will still work.
We hope to see you a lot in the future to keep the site active. As always, we appreciate submissions and feedback.

As we move into 2014, I thought I’d do a little year in review of the site. This was Hoopie World’s 10th year online, and although it has gone through many changes, and some years were more active than others, 2013 was the most visited year ever.
Social media more or less caused the message board to go stale and we removed it in 2013. We were a little late to the social media party, however we have joined Twitter and Facebook and have worked on growing our follower base over the latter part of last year as well. Please join them today if you haven’t yet. We post article links and breaking fire incident alerts as they happen on both Facebook and Twitter, and you can also see the feeds on the right side bar of every page on Hoopie World’s site.
We would like to thank everyone for their continued support, invite everyone to submit any news or photos that they have, and wish everyone a safe and happy 2014.
We have included some stats from 2013 for review.
