A local ambulance company is pursuing recertification from a national EMS review agency.
Representatives from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services were at Elizabeth Township Area EMS this week as part of a tri-annual review process.
CAAS uses a 130-point criteria system to review ambulance companies on all aspects of their operations and service. The review includes an examination of company finances, facilities, professional conduct and clinical protocol.
Reviewer Jim Thompson of Jackson, Miss., said accreditation demonstrates that ambulance companies are taking extra steps to achieve high standards in EMS work.
ETA EMS Capt. Dwayne Beere said the local company is one of only three in Allegheny County that has accreditation through CAAS and has been accredited since 2007.
A review board will look at the findings and is expected to issue a report within the next three months.
