Two men died in separate crashes early Sunday on area roads.
Christopher E. Maddy, 23, of Cairnbrook, was killed when his car left Monument Road and struck a utility pole in Shade Township. After striking the pole, the car rolled over and came to rest back on the roadway.
Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller ruled Maddy died of blunt force injuries to the head and chest.
In the other crash, Clifford N. McCachren III, 29, of Vintondale, died when his car left Route 403 and struck several trees in Buffington Township, Indiana County.
The County Line Road resident was traveling south on Route 403 about a mile south of Strongstown about 3 a.m. Sunday when his car went off the left shoulder of the road and traveled several hundred feet through a yard before striking the trees and coming to rest in a drainage ditch, Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr. reports.
McCachren was pronounced dead at the scene by Overman, who listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
McCachren was not wearing a seatbelt, Overman notes, adding that alcohol may have been a factor.
